“My goal is to create memories,” says Odd Ivar Solvold, the founder of Midtåsen Solvold AS. In addition to winning three national culinary championships and other prizes, he earned the 1997 Bronze Bocuse award in the illustrious international Bocuse d'Or competition.

 

Solvold's life is dedicated to gastronomy. Since he was a small boy, he has been fascinated by tastes and different combinations of food as well as the idea of creating new ones. And new ones have indeed been created. He has built his whole business on the experience and continually-evolving concept of taste, and he offers it to you to experience for yourself.

 

His philosophy is: “We eat meals everyday and we easily forget what we ate. What I want is to make the perfect meal that will last in your memory for a decade."

 

A taste of holiday!

 

An evening at Restaurant Solvold is a journey through the concepts of food and wine. The freshest and most flavorful ingredients of the season dictate the menu, from which you may choose four to eight courses accompanied by the perfect wine(s).

 

Solvold is known as one of the best restaurants in Norway and is the perfect place for the right occasion. The interior design of the restaurant is tasteful, modern, and inspired by northern trends. In the middle of the restaurant, on the same floor, sits the very special wine cellar, which is quite a view and by itself worth a visit. The cellar is made of clear glass and holds more than 700 different wines in approximately 4000 bottles.

 

The whole atmosphere gives you a feeling of elegance and luxury. The fireplace crackles with warmth and the waiters take excellent care of you from the moment you arrive until the time you bid adjø. It is the taste of a fantasy coming true.

SMAK – a taste of the good life!

 

SMAK restaurant is less formal than the gourmet restaurant. Here you might enjoy a light lunch or a full dinner but still in an elegant, luxurious atmosphere. In the summer, meals are also served outside on the terrace, which has become a popular meeting point in Sandefjord. SMAK is the perfect place to enjoy a coffee, a luscious slice of cake, a glass of wine with a small side order, a small lunch on the run, or a full dinner. There are a variety of tastes ranging from Middle Eastern to Asian to a little from Norway, everything designed by a master.

 

Within SMAK you will also find our small outlet of fine-food items produced by Solvold or imported but specially chosen for sale at SMAK. Choose from a selection that includes oils, vinegar, noodles/pasta, marmalades, and other specialties.

 

When the kitchen comes to you!

 

Within this concept there are hardly any limitations. You may order food, chefs, and waiters to any destination. Your home, a conference, a special destination outside, to the top of a mountain…..the only limit is your imagination. Seafood for two by the sea? A seven-course dinner for hundreds of people? Tapas to bring home? The master's take-away pizza? It is all up to you!

Do you desire to learn more about food and wine? We offer gastronomic courses for up to 40 guests at a time. A wine course may be everything from tasting an aperitif before dinner to a larger wine tasting combined with food. A chef's course may be as simple as sitting down watching the chef prepare a spectacular meal or as fantastic as making your own seven-course dinner. Let us know what you want!

Events and Celebrations

 

There is always the possibility of renting the restaurants for personal events. Solvold is perfect for private concerts or entertainment as well as for large parties. It is ideal to start with an aperitif in SMAK and then later move into the main restaurant to enjoy an exquisite dinner.
